Best Lightweight Strollers UK (2026)

Picks reviewed September 2026 · Sources verified November 2026

A lightweight stroller trades some of a full travel system's bulk for portability, and the best ones still fold in seconds and fit in an overhead locker. This guide is based on Mumsnet's tested roundup (updated September 2026), which combined Which? test data with weeks of hands-on testing by parents and their children in everyday situations: school runs, city streets, holidays and public transport, assessing folding, portability, comfort, manoeuvrability, storage and value. Prices shown are RRPs quoted by Mumsnet.

We have not hands-on tested these products. Our picks are based on published independent tests and reviews, listed at the bottom of this page. How we pick.

Our top pick

Stokke YOYO³

Best overall

Mumsnet's Best Buy. Tester Jilly found manoeuvrability one of its strongest features, with small nimble wheels fitting through tight spaces and effortless one-handed steering. It has reflective wheel rings, a basket that now holds up to 10kg, improved suspension and more breathable mesh on the straps and backrest. The white wheels show up dirt easily, a rain cover is sold separately, and it needs some assembly.

  • Well-cushioned and roomy
  • Generous storage basket
  • Easy to collapse and carry, with cover bag and strap included

Best budget

Ickle Bubba Aries Autofold Stroller

Mumsnet's tester Claire, a mum of two, said it's by far the easiest stroller she's ever folded and lifted into a car boot. It's ultra-lightweight with a small footprint, and different bundle versions add a foot warmer, cup holder or organiser. Claire liked the hood's back pocket for extra storage and found the seat comfortable for both her one-year-old and two-and-a-half-year-old. Fabrics aren't machine-washable and the handlebar isn't adjustable.

Best lie-flat seat

Silver Cross Clic 2

Mumsnet's tester Tamsin used it for a month and was impressed by how easy it was to lift, carry and fold thanks to the carry-strap mechanism, ideal for public transport. At 6.5kg it's one of the lightest strollers tested, and its full lie-flat seat suited her five-month-old's naps. It handles pavements and smooth surfaces well but isn't built for rough terrain, isn't cabin-approved (unlike the Silver Cross Jet 5), and the handlebar isn't adjustable.

Best fold

Joolz Aer²

Mumsnet's tester Sophie was surprised how light it felt given how sturdy it looks and feels compared with other lightweight strollers. Its one-second, one-hand fold collapses into a self-standing position for cabin-approved travel, and it has the world's first fully foldable carrycot, also approved for overnight sleep. It's made from recycled PET bottles with a 10-year transferable warranty. The only drawback Mumsnet notes is the premium price.

Winner of a Red Dot Design Award. Mumsnet's tester Lily used it daily with her two-year-old and awarded it a full five stars, praising the enhanced suspension, sturdy wheels, smooth handling and near-flat recline that lowers gently without jolting a sleeping child. A fixed handlebar was still comfortable for her 6ft 2in husband. It's forward-facing only unless used with a car seat, and has no bumper bar.

iCandy Pip

Mumsnet's tester Laura used it for eight weeks with her eight-month-old and found it effortless day to day: 'It's light, sleek and easy to carry,' adding that opening it one-handed while holding her child was a game changer. It's cabin-approved and small enough for an overhead locker or car boot. The handlebar isn't adjustable and the rain cover doesn't offer full coverage.

Best for frequent flyers

Cybex Libelle

Mumsnet's tester Matt found it folds down to the size of a small carry-on suitcase, one of the lightest strollers tested, and it stands up on its own with side carry handles. Colour-coded buttons make folding easy and it comes pre-assembled. The small wheels struggled on rough terrain like grass, the three-point harness slipped with a bouncing toddler, a changing bag was hard to fit in the 5kg basket, and there's no belly bar included.

Age range
6 months to 4 years (birth with compatible car seat)
Weight
5.9kg
Folded size
48 x 32 x 20cm
Price guide
RRP £270

Pros

  • Folds to the size of a small suitcase
  • Stands up when folded, with carry handles
  • Infinite recline, no assembly needed, cabin-approved

Cons

  • Wheels struggled on rough terrain such as grass
  • Three-point harness slipped during use
  • No bumper bar included, and mud settles into the fabric if not wiped quickly

Buying guide

Which stroller is best for flying?

The Cybex Libelle folds to carry-on suitcase size and stands on its own, making it Mumsnet's pick for frequent flyers. The Stokke YOYO³, Joolz Aer², Cybex Orfeo and iCandy Pip are also cabin-approved, while the Silver Cross Clic 2 is not and will usually need checking in.

Can a lightweight stroller be used from birth?

Several fully recline flat: the Silver Cross Clic 2, Joolz Aer², Stokke YOYO³ (with the newborn pack) and iCandy Pip all lie flat for newborn naps. The Cybex Libelle is rated from six months unless paired with a compatible infant car seat.

How much does weight matter day to day?

For carrying up stairs or onto buses, every kilogram counts. The Cybex Libelle (5.9kg), Ickle Bubba Aries (6.1kg) and Stokke YOYO³ (6.2kg) are the lightest here, while the iCandy Pip (7kg) is still light but slightly heavier for its extra features.

Will it cope with anything other than pavements?

Not really. Mumsnet's testers found the small wheels on lightweight strollers, including the Cybex Libelle, struggle on grass and rough ground. These are designed for pavements, city life and travel; for countryside walks Mumsnet suggests a proper all-terrain pram instead.
